Collaborations

Breathable Streets's activities are conducted in partnership with local community groups, and in collaboration with a national network of scholars and advocates working on similar initiatives within local contexts. For our local partnerships, we have begun to assemble active community organizations across the region (including San Diego, Poway, La Mesa, and Chula Vista) to provide input on the forthcoming overhaul of community oversight boards. For the national networking, we have taken advantage of an existing organization (the National Association for Community Oversight of Law Enforcement) to consult oversight practitioners in Chicago, New Orleans, New York, and Seattle (among others). We intend to develop a model of community engagement in police transparency and accountability that can be exported beyond the San Diego Region.
